Rani unbeaten champion in Nat’l Women’s Chess

Shawedesh Desk: Rani Hamid earned 8.5 points out of nine games and this was her 20th national title

Reigning women’s champion, Women’s International Master Rani Hamid of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party retained the Marcel Refrigeration National Women’s Chess Championship as the unbeaten champion at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room, National Sports Council’s old building in Dhaka Friday.

Rani earned 8.5 points out of nine games and this was her 20th national title.

WIM Sharmin Sultana Shirin of Janata Bank Officer Welfare Society became runners-up with eight points.

Two players garnered seven points each.

In the tie-braking system Ahmed Walijah of Elegant International Chess Academy finished third and Women’s Fide Master Nazrana Khan Eva of Manikganj ended fourth.

Women’s Candidate Master Noshin Anjum of EICA became fifth with 6.5 points. Five players earned six points each.

In the tie-breaking system, their positions are – WCM Sharmin Samiha Shimmi (sixth), Tasnia Tarannum Orpa (seventh), Umme Taslima Protiva Talukder (eighth) of Bogura, Wadifa Ahmed (ninth) of EICA and Israt Jahan Diba (10th).

Seven players gathered 5.5 points each.

In the tie-breaking system, 11th to 14th positions were decided, they are – Afrin Jahan Munia (11th) of Barisal, WCM Jannatul Ferdous (12th) of EICA, Nusrat Jahan Alo (13th) of EICA and Kazi Zarin Tasnim (14th) of Dhaka.

Aeon Sarker finished 15th, Musfica Zannat Sawri 16th and Omnia Binte Yusuf Lubaba of Chittagong 17th; all of them totaling 5.5 points each.
